About us

Moulakis Library plays a vital role in connecting students, faculty, and scholars across the American University of Iraq and aims to provide the highest quality information and resources to support research activities of students and faculty by integrating information literacy into the curriculum program to support the learning goals of AUIS students and faculty.

The library maintains a core collection of English, Arabic, Kurdish books, periodicals, audio-visual materials, and online electronic databases are also available. Moreover, comprehensive interlibrary loan services, and computer and printing services. Reading and writing centers are located in the library too.

Library Instruction is offered on a continuing basis and per request including but not limited to: walk-in classes, face-to-face sessions with students, curriculum-integrated sessions, workshops, games, and online learning modules.

The Library is named in honor of Dr. Athanasios Moulakis, He served as President Emeritus and a member of the Board of Trustees of the American University of Iraq, Sulaimani from 2010 to 2013 and passed away in 2015.

Mission and Vision

Moulakis Library is an active participant in the university's academic development and responds to the needs of students and faculty. The library supports AUIS's overall mission in several ways:

  • Delivering research expertise, collections, services, and technologies to support AUIS academic mission
  • Creating an inclusive environment that respects, appreciates, and enriches all individuals and groups in our diverse community.
  • Teaching and promoting information literacy and critical thinking to discover, create, and use information with rigor and integrity.
  • Partnerships with faculty to provide instructional support services for students
  • Quality resources that align with the university’s curriculum
